Built in 1851, Mt. Zion Old School Baptist Church was a place of worship until 1980. Located at the historic intersection of the Little River Turnpike and the Old Carolina Road, Mt. Zion has a rich local legacy. A significant site during the Civil War, the church was a rendezvous point for Mosby’s Rangers, a hospital, a prison, and a battleground during the conflict. The adjacent cemetery contains more than 240 marked headstones, including a War of 1812 veteran.

Well maintained and significant site. Met with two historians there and learned a great deal about Col. John S. Mosby and his Rangers. Fascinating!
